An Antique Bakhshayesh rug woven ca 1880. The variety of carpet production that distinguishes the Bakhshaish factory is truly surprising. The stylistic variety, in fact, represents a distinctive feature of the carpets from Bakshaish which stands out from those made in the nearby centers of Heriz, Kharaje and Goeravan. In this rare antique Bakhshaish carpet, we can immediately perceive the very high quality of the artifact. The rare background color is certainly a first indication of high quality. The background is dominated by a single central medallion with a stepped profile at the top of which pendants extend, unusually arranged on all four sides. The colors are vivid and bright, the wools soft and shining. The ivory or natural wool colored background of this Bakhshaish are perfectly harmonized with the shades of the carpet which, although in stark contrast to each other, maintain balance by containing the liveliness of the brighter tones such as red and blue. The borders are rich and well modulated, the counter-edge and the corners are well-assorted in colors and stylized motifs that offer movement to the static nature of the ivory colored background. This Bakhshaish carpet represents one of the greatest expressions of Persian and Caucasian carpet production whose versatility remains unchanged over time. It can coexist with any type of furniture.
