Antique Persian Bakshayesh Medallion Field Rug, 1900 ca. Bakhshayesh carpets are particularly appreciated for their structural quality, for the attractive design that is easy to match in any context, and for an absolutely peculiar use of colors and contrasts. Normally the formats of these carpets are quite large and we rarely find manufactures of medium-small dimensions as for this example. The small-sized artefacts of the early 20th century arose from the need to satisfy the great demand for carpets of approximately 3 square meters mainly produced in the Caucasian area, in this case Kazak. In this Bakhshayesh we can appreciate the character of the design, very clear and defined by the contrasts and chromatic harmony. The bright red field, dominated by an important central medallion, is surrounded by floral motifs on an ivory background. The sky blue corners chisel the corners, pushing the design towards the center of the carpet. The border on a midnight blue background is magnificent, embellished with a truly elegant multicolored herati motif.
