Rug Description

A magnificent antique silk rug Kashan prayer field (niche or “mirhab”) with floral design made entirely by hand at the beginning of the 20th century. The colors, shades and contrasts are perfectly preserved and expertly combined with each other.

The border, on an amaranth background, is richly decorated with small “bouquets” and floral elements. The skill in creating this antique silk rug Kashan can already be appreciated from the corners of the carpet from which small flower vases stand out, overturning the canonical patterns of “classic” Persian carpets. The ivory background contains “leaf” motifs in Islimi style surrounded by small floral motifs which set a small vase of flowers at the bottom centre, another small medallion in the central area and another small vase of flowers before reaching the niche or “mirhab” in contrast with the rest of the background in a shade between violet and electric blue. A true masterpiece of the highest artistic and aesthetic value in which refinement and skill blend together Persian decorative styles, making this silk Kashan a true jewel to be preserved over time.
