Rug Description

Antique Azerbaijani Seyychour (Zeikhur) Rug, 1880-1900. An elegant small format antique Azerbaijani carpet in the “gul farang” decorative style. The background of this delightful Seychour carpet, on a midnight blue background, is decorated with a pattern of bunches of roses, or also “cabbage pink”. These motifs have merged with the traditional Caucasian ones since the 18th century, when carpets were also made in Europe, in France, they were produced and exported above all thanks to diplomatic actions with the oriental carpet-producing countries. The European style influenced the entire production of floral carpets and fabrics, especially during the Ottoman Empire, also in the Caucasus and Iran. Although this small antique Seychour carpet is small in size, we can appreciate the decorative composition, also thanks to the robust border, also with a “cabbage rose” motif with bold and particularly saturated colours. A rare jewel, this small Azerbaijani Seychour Gul Farang carpet, in which everything is well articulated and arranged on the surface. The state of conservation of this antique Seychour (Zeikhur) carpet is excellent. The format is very rare.
