Rug Description
Antique Caucasian Kalleh-Size Shahsavan All-over Carpet. 1800-1820 ca.
A Kelleh carpet, Shah Savan that is decidedly interesting both for its harmonious chromatic combination and for its decorative graphic composition. Very attractive in this Shah Savan is the decorative structure of the main border imagined in a “crab border” style in the lower part which begins to develop along the length with “Khocak” pattern on the rest of the frame. The background of this Shah Savan is filled all over with the “chichak lameh” pattern which supports the “gul Hinnai” pattern. The charm of these carpets is often given by changes in decorative patterns, it seems like reading a score, where the rhythm and melodies are marked by abrash, by the chromatic alternations and by the oxidations present on the background. A light background is rare for this type of carpet. Small wear on the lower part of the carpet where the “crab” motif is present. Explore our special collection of Caucasian rugs.
