Large Size Antique Caucasian Karabak Rug, XIX Century. A very rare large format Caucasian Karabakh antique carpet on an ivory background with all-over design. The background of this extraordinary Caucasian Karabak carpet is dominated by a succession of “cypress” motifs arranged in parallel across the entire background. The cypress trees are flanked by scattered floral motifs and delightful palmettes with sinuous oblong leaves. The background is very defined and the details are well recognisable, not only thanks to the fineness of the knotting, but above all thanks to the skilful use of tones and contrasts and exceptional quality wools. The main border of this antique Caucasian Karabak carpet showcase herati motifs interpreted in the local style; they are stunning for their seductive graphics and for their lively and elegant color combinations at the same time. The yellow borders are very rare, finely decorated with the carnation motif. Large format Caucasian carpets are very rare and, in this case, we are faced with a true masterpiece created by the masters of Karabak. The state of conservation of this antique Karabak carpet is excellent. A true jewel with a rare size and background colour.
