Rug Description
Antique Caucasian Karabak rug. 1880 ca. Elegant antique Caucasian Karabak carpet of large format with extraordinarily intense colors and impeccably executed graphics on the medallion and contour motifs on the background. The variety in the production of Karabak carpets is surprising not only for the variety of symbols used, but above all for the great inventiveness in reworking traditional motifs into new decorative styles. In this antique Caucasian Karabak carpet, the background in wine red color, medallions and counter-edges in Herati style develop in a very strong but never brazen chromatic contrast. The borders also bear the herati motif, incorporating a variety of colours, especially green, giving further liveliness and brightness. The state of conservation of this antique Caucasian carpet is excellent. Rare format, fantastic colours.
