Rug Description

Antique Caucasian Kuba (Quba) Runner Rug, ca. 1880. A very elegant antique Caucasian Kuba (Quba) runner rug with an all-over boteh motif design on an enchanting brown background. The background of this Caucasian Quba carpet is made up of “boteh” motifs that seem to be almost carved on the surface. The white botehs illuminate the carpet without overpowering the delicacy of those with barely visible profiles with an amazing shade of green. Small rosettes and filling motifs occupy the spaces left free by the botehs, giving rhythm to the sinuosity of the design. The borders of this antiqueCaucasian Kuba (Quba) carpet are very accurate and well distributed around the entire perimeter. The border with stylized pink rosettes on a brick red base is very characteristic and distinctive, an opulent main border with an eagle’s beak motif, the borders with multicolored tassels are defined and precise. The state of conservation of this antique Caucasian carpet in rare “runner” format is very good, carefully kept in the Mollaian Rugs collection
