Rug Description

Antique Caucasian handknotted Lezghi carpet. 1950-1970. The production of Caucasian carpets, made in the former Soviet republics, have developed and merged into designs that are often very different from each other. In this Lezghi carpet, we find a variation of the classic eight-pointed star design with decidedly softer lines compared to the stylish and rigid ones of the canonical Lezghi. In this Lezghi carpet on a bright red background, three medallions are arranged, two lateral ones with a light blue profile and a central one with a midnight blue profile, which retain the graphic layout of the eight prominences but in the form of medallions. The medallions are well defined in terms of proportions and chromatic contrasts. The rest of the background of this Lezghi is adorned with star motifs typical of the production of Quba and Karabagh carpets. The Kufic border is well modulated and delightfully combined with the colors of the decorations present in it. The state of conservation of this Lezghi carpet is excellent.
