Antique Caucasian Lezghi star carpet. XIX Century. A wonderful antique Caucasian Lezghi rug in large runner size. The background is dominated by a series of large eight-pointed stars in an interchange of colour. There are three Lezghi stars in red and three, the last of which is incomplete, in yellow. The alternation of star motifs offers an exceptional overall decorative effect, not only for the chromatic alternation, but above all for the care with which the background of this amazing 19th century Caucasian Lezghi carpet has been decorated. In addition to the star motifs, in fact, we can come across the ancient ancestral symbols of the Caucasus, also finding very interesting symbols such as that of the so-called “lapwing”. The colors are intense and warm, well matched both in the outlines of the main designs and in the small filling motifs. The Kufic style border is amazing, on a green background perfectly in harmony with the entire decorative composition present in this antique Lezghi carpet. The state of conservation of this antique Caucasian carpet is simply impeccable, ready to be hosted in a new environment.
