Rug Description

Antique Turkish Mudjur rug, 1900-1920. A rare carpet with a green background in pure late Ottoman style. The decorative composition of this antique Mudjur carpet develops in an unusual cypress motif in a horizontal line on two sides, joined by a yellow ocher cartouche in which another small cypress resides, with protruding branches, supported by a small rosette. This cartouche is flanked laterally by small cypresses, completing the effect of alternating violet, light blue, brown and yellow ocher colours. The rest of the background of this antique Mudjur carpet is adorned with “hyacinth” motifs that make up small squares inside which there are pieces with a star motif. The chromatic and filling movement of the three borders that precede the background is magnificent. The main border of this antique Turkish Mudjur rug gives particular lightness to the design, thanks to the soft background shade adorned with subtle jagged zigzag stylistic features and traditional ancestral motifs. The composition of the borders is very accurate, from the one in violet with an empty field, to the border on an ocher background, the rhythm of the design is marked by the alternation of the “arrowhead” motifs in light blue, ivory and violet. The state of conservation of this antique Turkish Mudjur carpet is excellent. The structure with additional texture in red is also typical.
