Antique Caucasian Perpedil Rug. 1900-1920. Among the most sought after carpets by collectors and lovers of Caucasian carpets, those by Perpedil are the most coveted even if they were made in the first decades of the 20th century. In this example in its original condition, a detail not to be overlooked when observing the fringes woven on one side and open with intact kilim weaving before the fringes. The typical design of Perpedil carpets with a ram’s horn motif or also known as flower calyxes, develops, together with other traditional motifs such as the star of Quba, robust boteh with a serrated profile, rosette motifs, diamonds with a hooked profile and elements zoomorphic, filling the midnight blue field. In this antique Perpedil carpet, the borders follow one another in a palette of warm colors and, although generally dark, are enlivened by the areas in natural wool colour. The borders of this antique Caucasian Perpedil carpet, thanks to the pronounced “primitive” style, provide a unique testimony to the iconographic repertoire present in the Caucasian textile tradition.
