Rug Description

Antique Caucasian Seychour (Zeikhur) runner rug. Ca 1900 (dated 1316). The influence of the European style in the manufacture of oriental carpets began to have its roots already in the mid-18th century and the area of ✓✓Karabagh and the Zeikhur carpets were certainly the most influenced by the so-called “gul farang” style, or French flower. Trade and the continuous demand for gul farang style carpets are still in use in some areas of Iran, which in various forms and styles has paid homage to the French decorative style used especially in Savonnarie carpets and tapestries. In this antique Zeikhur carpet we find a very dense representation of the garden design interrupted by medallions, almost creating a new view of the scene and by counter-edges on an ivory background of great effect. The quality of the wool is excellent, the colors well structured and preserved throughout the field. A tribute to French art, this antique Zeikhur carpet is rich in details and shades in which to lose yourself for hours. The date in the Islamic calendar has been knotted on this carpet. Its excellent state of conservation makes it usable without hesitation.
