Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug. 1880-1900. A beautiful antique classic Caucasian Shirvan medallion rug. The background of this antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet on a midnight blue background is dominated by four concentric medallions with a scalar profile. The inside of the medallions is decorated with small multicolored tiles creating a very interesting graphic effect. The rest of the background is adorned with small traditional motifs, zoomorphic elements, rosettes and small hooked medallions in an elegant balance of contrasts and colours. Very interesting in this antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet are the Medacyl borders and those in light shades, illuminating the carpet with a great chromatic and aesthetic sense. The state of conservation of this antique Shirvan carpet is excellent, the wool is soft and bright, the knotting is dense and compact.
