Antique Caucasian Shirvan Rug. 1880-1900. A very particular antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet on a dark blue background with a very original design. The background of this antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet is decorated with all over design. The originality of tribal carpets, and in this case of Caucasian carpets, is due to the “artistic” creativity of the knotter, who in the creation of his carpet has full expressive freedom, changing the decorative style during the work, as in this case. This antique Shirvan carpet in which the design is composed of a grid with a serrated profile in ocher and red leaving a free portion at the end of the midnight blue background. The main filling motifs consist of opulent rosette motifs alternating with cherry blossoms in white and ocher. This antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet has a series of borders that are very well distributed stylistically and perfectly balanced in terms of motifs and color contrasts. Star motifs joined by leaves run on an ivory background, further illuminating the carpet and strengthening the internal graphics of the main border, on a black background, where the colors of the white flowers and the cruciform rosettes in various shades of blue. The state of conservation of this antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet with all-over design is excellent. An elegant and truly original antique carpet.
