Rug Description

Antique Caucasian red Shirvan carpet. Ca 1940. Mid 19th century Caucasian Shirvan rug, medium size. Shirvan carpets from this age are particularly robust and compact in knotting and have excellent wool. The field of this Caucasian Shirvan carpet on a red background contains three medallions with an octagonal perimeter in which eight-pointed stars are arranged in the center. The main and secondary borders are adorned with polychrome motifs of rosettes on a cobalt blue background and in the main one with the symbol of fertility, represented by a “diamond” in the center with curved “arms” on both sides. The bright and at the same time elegantly arranged colors on this Shirvan carpet allow it to be placed both in a classic environment and in a rustic or modern style. The state of conservation of this Caucasian Shirvan carpet is excellent.
