Antique Caucasian Khila Rug. 1880. An authentic antique Caucasian Shirvan medallion rug. The midnight blue background of this antique Shirvan carpet is dominated by hexagonal medallions very common in 19th century carpets on a very saturated brick red background. The medallions of this particular antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet are protected by a strong “locked” profile with a scalar profile embellished with red flamed lines defining the ocher-coloured spaces with an excellent balance of proportions and chromatic exchanges. The rest of the background of this antique Caucasian Shirvan carpet is chiseled with small filling motifs typical of the Azerbaijani cultural repertoire, small dragon motifs in ivory. The chromatic quality of the borders is harmonious and the alternation of motifs well modulated. An antique Caucasian carpet in excellent condition, easy to place in any environment, even hanging on the wall.
