Rug Description
Antique Caucasian Kuba (Quba). XIX Century. A rare antique Kuba (Quba) carpet on a cobalt blue background. The decorative structure of this antique Kuba carpet is decorated with a few elements, palmettes and stylizations of the “mirror” dragon motif, surrounded by small rosettes, zoomorphic elements and thin trees of life interrupted by small lace tiles. The border on a light, ivory-colored base is decorated with the best known of the serrated leaf and the calyx motif, surrounded by other borders culminating in small medacyls. The knotting of this antique Caucasian Kuba carpet is very fine, the wools are compact and well-matched in color, thanks also to the masterful use of yellow, sage green and brick red. The state of conservation of this antique Kuba carpet is excellent, carefully kept in the Mollaian Rugs collection.
