Rug Description
Antique Caucasian Kazak Karachov Rug. Ca 19th Century. Karachov or Karachoph carpets have always been an inexhaustible magnet for enthusiasts and collectors of antique Caucasian carpets. The peculiarity of this iconic carpet is its decorative characteristics which in this example are very evident especially in the particular style of the borders which echo the cousins Kazak Borjalou carpets. 19th century rugs often have wide zigzag edges with latch “hooks” protruding from either side of the edge. The colors of this Kazak Karachov are warm and lively at the same time. The octagonal medallion is surrounded by 4 small rectangular medallions on red background. The filler patterns of this rug contrast well with the rest of the rug’s main patterns. In good condition. Explore our collection of Caucasian rugs.
