Small Antique Shirvan Caucasian Rug. Ca 1900. Very rare are the antique Caucasian rugs of small format. This small Caucasian Shirvan rug, despite its small size, has a vibrant personality. The design of this antique Caucasian Shirvan rug is dominated by a constellation of polychrome stars standing out on a midnight blue background. The main border, ivory background, is modulated by polychrome cruciform motifs that further strengthen the energetic charge of this small Caucasian Shirvan star carpet. The two smaller borders on a cobalt blue background are deliberately sparsely decorated, precisely so as not to weigh down the visual effect which is light and airy. The state of conservation of this antique Shirvan rug is decidedly good, ready to be part of a rich collection.
