Rug Description

Peking Antique Chinese Carpet, 19th Century. A large-format Pekino carpet with an all-over design defined by a very light contrast between the midnight blue background of the background and the slightly lighter blue that inlays the design. In this ancient Peking carpet, the decorative style echoes the style of carpets made already under the Qangxi dynasty (1661-1722), where the decorative motifs chase each other suspended on the background together with Ch’ang motifs, the endless knot symbol of destiny, of eternity or longevity, and of the “Dorje”, or symbol of light. The main border on a light background is spaciously decorated with stylized midnight blue dragon motifs and is supported by a further border in which the stylization of the motifs is the same shade as that which makes up the internal decoration of the background. In excellent condition, with a soft and bright pile, this antique Pekino carpet can be placed in any type of furniture, whether antique or ultra-modern.
