Rug Description
Silk Antique Chinese Ningxia Rug, 1920-1950 ca.
A magnificent small silk carpet dedicated to the dragon motif. the pattern of the carpet is dominated by the 5-clawed dragon motif in the centre. This central “medallion” arrangement is called “Kuilong”, or the image of the dragon in its most archaic form. At its sides run large “Ruyi” clouds. Both headers bear the motif of the rainbow border in shades of blue and light blue completed by the motif of the “sacred mountain” also surrounded by Ruyi clouds. The state of conservation is excellent, such small dimensions are very rare for such a precious Ningxia. Explore our collection of Chinese rugs.
