Rug Description

Antique All-Over Khotan Rug, ca 1900. A small Khotan carpet with an all-over design on an orange background. The carpets made in East Turkestan have a very modular decorative style, both in the repetition of the medallions and in the all-over decoration. On the main border runs the “shou” motif which symbolizes “long life” in alternation of very light colors among which some in brown stand out. The painting is filled with peony flowers which generally symbolize wealth, honor, beauty, love or spring. A medium-sized rug that can easily be placed even in small spaces.
