Rug Description

This is an unusual antique Bakhtiari rug woven in Southwest Persia during the end of the 19th century circa 1880. The allover field design of this rug is rare and made of extra-large medallions interconnected with extra-large floral motifs. The field design is made using highly saturated polychrome colors set on a beige background and a black colored main border that creates a high level of color contrast. The border design is of repeating vases with blossoming flowers which is a classical motif found in early Bakhtiari carpets and was adopted by the most famous rug weaver during the Qajar dynasty Mohtasham Kashan. This rug was woven on a cotton foundation with 100% wool pile and all-natural highly saturated dyes. It is in overall great condition and has been professionally cleaned.
