Rug Description
This is an antique Bidjar rug from Northwest Persia and it was woven during the 19th century. The design of this rug is extremely unique, and you might say one of a kind. It is an attempt to combine a city and town rug design and the outcome has created a magnificent drawing that has a very dramatic impact on the viewer. The highly stylized split arabesque motifs surrounding the center medallion are set on an open field and draw the viewer’s eye to the background of the rug. The color combinations of yellow, black, and red create dramatic color contrast and give the impression of an aristocratic feel to the rug. The main border of this rug makes use of a vine design with blossoming flowers and creates movement within the rug. This Bidjar has been woven on a cotton foundation and has 100% wool pile and uses all-natural vegetable dyes.
