This is a Qashqai woven by the Kashkuli sub-tribe from southwest Persia and it was woven circa 1890. The field is designed using three center medallions allied on a vertical axis and the foreground is composed of the paisley motif. The border is designed with light colored palmettes surrounded by red sickle leaf motifs to create a color contrasting effect against the midnight blue ground color. This rug is in overall good condition with one of its ends beginning to fray and some slight loss.
