A Persian qashqai kilim rug horse cover that most probably was used to decorate horses during tribal ceremonies or weddings.

Rug Description

This is an antique tribal Qashqai horse cover woven in southwest Persia circa 1900-1920. This textile was used to decorate horses during tribal ceremonies or weddings. The design of the textile is composed of rows with different tribal motifs, ranging from diamonds, paisleys, “X’s”, and one row of women. The fact that this textile has a row on women at the bottom indicates it was most likely woven for wedding purposes. It was woven in two parts and joined together in the middle and uses a combination of a flatweave and pile technique. This rug is in excellent condition and has retained all of its original fringes. It has all-natural vegetable dyes and has been professionally cleaned. It is ready to be added to any tribal collection or used within any home to add a special conversation piece.
