Rug Description

Antique Persian Pictorial Kashan Mohtasham Hand-Knotted Rug, 1900 ca. A very rare Kashan carpet made in the workshop of the incomparable master Mothasham. Of medium size, in this Kashan Mothasham, we are faced with a real “photo album” from that period. A series of characters from the Qajar dynasty are represented within cartouches set in refined stylizations of “aslimi” motifs. In the centre, we find the image of Ahmad Shah Qajar (1898-1930), surrounded by small “cameos” containing inscriptions which together with the effigies of the descendants of the Qajar dynasty make up a dense lattice adorned with delicate color combinations, elegantly defining the entire background . This carpet, like all the others from the Mothasham production, are masterpieces in terms of colour, proportion and refinement, for many unparalleled. Small and stylish “medacyl” define the external border of the carpet, anticipating the elaborate borders that surround the main edge. This Kashan Motasham carpet, in addition to being a carpet of the highest quality, due to its particular celebratory reference, can certainly be added to the relics and memorabilia of periods and historical figures of high relevance in the Persian world, elevating it to a museum carpet. This antique Kashan Mothasham carpet is in excellent condition, ready to be hosted in important and “princely” environments.
