A Massive Antique Persian Kashan Manchester Carpet, ca 1900. A wonderful Persian Kashan carpet of “giant” dimensions made with very fine Manchester wool; an incredible silky effect in which all the details and profiles of the designs almost seem to be suspended on the elegant sage green background. The “Manchester” Kashan carpets have been produced by 1890 to 1930 using merino wool spun in the city of Manchester, England. The design develops across the entire field, all over, with curvilinear flowering stems in a very elegant balance of colours, especially yellow in contrast with the more cerulean colours. The color palette is very accurate and no tone prevails over the other, creating a play of shapes interrupted only by small medallions with barely visible profiles. An antique carpet to join far and wide to appreciate its great quality and refinement. The pink borders give a further touch of originality to this “oversize” Kashan carpet, confirming the excellent ability to match colors while always remaining faithful to the Persian decorative tradition.
