Rug Description

A Pictorial Antique Persian Kashan Mohtasham Rug, 1920 ca. A very refined figurative carpet dedicated to the last ruler of the Qajar dynasty: Ahmad Shāh Qājār reigning from 1897 to 1929. In this wonderful Kashan carpet made in the atelier of the Master Hajji Mullah Mohammad Hassan Mohtasham, better known as the producer of the called Kashan Mohtasham. In this magnificent example, we can appreciate the delicacy of the tones, of the background in which in the foreground Ahmad Shah Qajar appears sitting on an imperial seat, of which portions of the backrest, the seat and his legs can be seen in a harmonious fusion of colors where, the lilac color contrasts delightfully with the color of the shah’s boots. The cerulean background of the main border, lightly decorated with small floral motifs, is interspersed with cartouches decorated with verses in Farsi, defining the preciousness of this ancient Kashan Mohtasham carpet in excellent condition and ready to be the new protagonist of an important collection.
