The master par excellence, Hajji Mullah Mohammad Hassan Mohtasham, is capable of surprising in each of his creations. In this magnificent antique Kashan Mohtasham carpet, we have a really interesting and quite rare decorative structure to find in the market. The design of this ancient Kashan Mohtasham develops unidirectionally, enclosed in a niche. The very rich borders, on a midnight blue background, prelude the majesty of the background design, with virtuous floral decorations with clear contrasts but at the same time delicate and well-assorted. The background of this ancient Kashan Mohtasham carpet is the “signature” of the master: from bottom to top, surrounded by floral motifs, a vase soars upwards culminating in a ray of floral motifs in alternating blue and ivory colours. The compositions of the aslimi motif as vase handles are very interesting. The design is further embellished by the natural wool contrast of the counter-edges that flank the niche. The state of conservation of this unusual Kashan Mohtasham is decidedly excellent, allowing this carpet to preserve its primordial beauty intact.
