Rug Description

Antique Persian Bakshaish Kalleh Runner, ca 1900. A rare antique Bakshaish runner rug on a camel background. Very meticulous and decidedly elaborate manufacturing. The balance of this antique Bakhshaish carpet is determined by the modularity of the design that makes up the surface of the background in a succession of stylized “mina khani” motifs, repeated across the board interrupted by small medallions on a natural-coloured background. The stylization of the “herati” motif interspersed in the border with cruciform rosette motifs in small rectangular scrolls is very interesting. The spaciousness of the empty field border filled with generous Boteh motifs and other antique symbols often used in more traditional manufacturing is truly interesting. In this carpet we can appreciate the combination of a more angular decorative style with ethnic roots and a more evolved and “urban” style perfectly in harmony with each other. A true example of the genius of weavers capable of translating innovation into tradition. The state of conservation is excellent, it can be placed in a corridor, in front of a sideboard or to define the focal point of a room thanks to the harmony and delicacy of its shades.
