Rug Description

Antique Turkish Kaysery Rug, 1920 ca. The so-called “prayer” carpets have had a very rich and interesting evolution over the centuries. In this example, with a silk pile, we find all the characteristics of the carpets belonging to the “Salting group”. This type of carpet rich in arabesque decorations, bands of clouds and inscriptions both on the borders within the cartouches and within the background are rather rare and complex to create. Interesting to know that the nickname “salting” originates from George Salting following a donation made to the Victoria and Albert Museum in London. In this refined Kayseri example we can appreciate the chromatic harmony and the balance of the very warm and well-arranged tones across the entire background. the visual perception is very interesting, we seem to discover multiple decorative styles in a single carpet, from the medallion hinted at tone on tone with the background, to the small chiseled columns with small medallions at the base and at the joining corners at the top. The well-modulated borders, enriched by small wine-red inserts, further enhance the graphic composition of the entire carpet. Explore our collection of turkish rugs.
