Rug Description

Antique Konakend Caucasian carpet all over design. XIX century. Caucasian carpets have consolidated their fame not only thanks to the multitude of decorative styles applied in their precious artefacts, but also thanks to the surprising ability to maintain a very defined local identity from village to village, “drawing”, each with its own particularity, the ancestral heritage of the peoples of the Caucasus. Caucasian Khonagend carpets can have medallion or full-field designs. In this antique Caucasian Konakend carpet, we find the so-called “honeycomb” design on a midnight blue background. The design develops across the entire surface. The decidedly magnetic graphics invite the gaze to flow through the dense network embellished with polychrome “rosettes”, “x” motifs, small “S” motifs, alternating motifs in one direction and the other; a true graphic work. Unusual in this antique Konakend carpet, the border on a salmon pink background, filled with small polychrome cruciform motifs, instead of the Kufic style border, well matched and charming balanced. The state of conservation of this antique Konagend carpet is excellent, the colors are well preserved, the wools are soft, compact and bright.
