This is a Peking rug woven in China at the end of the 19th century. The field of this rug’s design is made by using two different shades of blue to create a color contrasting effect. The design is made of mostly connecting cloud band motifs, and some flower motifs spread throughout the field. The center of this rug is made up of a lotus flower which is one of the most important flowers in the Chinese culture and it also represents the seat of Buddha. The border is made up of a combination of leaf motifs and large palmettes. This rug has been woven on a cotton foundation and has 100% wool pile.
